Abstract

The dynamic step response of Aanderaa oxygen optodes was evaluated in a laboratory setup. The O2 time response was measured as function of temperature (2°C < T < 36°C) and a physicochemical model derived thereof. The response characteristic is not only a result of the membrane properties but to a large extent dependent on the liquid boundary layer in front of the membrane and its erosion. A close to linear relationship between temperature and the phenomelogical time constant tau was found, being slower at lower temperatures and centered around the manufacturers specifications.
