Abstract
Sea level rise is one of the most dramatic consequences of global warming. The classification of past and future sea level rise is difficult, because data sets are too short and the effects of forcings like solar radiation and the internal variability of the climate system are not clear yet. But the understanding of these influences is the basis for understanding the anthropogenic influence on such a complex system like the climate system. In this bachelor thesis the effect of idealised solar forcing (the solarconstant varies with ±2W/m2 and periods of 100 and 60 years) on the dynamical sea level (difference from global mean, DSL) in the Kiel Climate Model is analysed. Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA) is used to find and compare the leading modes for the control run (internal variability) and two forced runs in the Atlantic Ocean. For analysing the spatial effect of the modes (lag-) regression analysis is performed. In addition the relationship between the DSL and the atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) is examined. The frequencies and the explained variances of DSL and AMOC change as soon as the model is forced. Especially for the AMOC a frequency of 100 years is excited in the two forced experiments. This mode is not significant in the control simulation. In addition it is shown that the relationship between DSL and AMOC is not completely solved yet and needs further analysis.
