Abstract

The new tungstovanadate (trenH)(2)(trenH(2))(2)[W4V13O44]center dot ca.11H2O was prepared under solvothermal conditions in a basic solution at pH approximate to 12. The cluster core contains V-IV/V-V centers with delocalized spins exhibiting strong antiferromagnetic exchange interactions as evidenced by tempera-ture-dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements pointing to an S = 1/2 magnetic ground state. The structure features an eight-membered ring composed of four alternating edge-sharing VO5 pyramids and VO6 octahedra encapsulating a central Keggin fragment.
