Abstract

The chapter gives an overview of marine plant relationships with their environment, wich is called ecology. The overview is a requirement to understanding the biology of marine plants because they do not live as isolated units. Consideration will be given to basic tenets of marine ecology including levels of organization (Populations to ecosystems), processes of community development (succession, energy transfer), strategies (evolutionary, plant responses), biological iunteractions (forms of symbiosis, competition, predation), and growth (rates and responses).
