Abstract

This contribution elaborates on transmitter-side precoding for MIMO downlinks with full channel state information at the transmitter and no channel state information at the receiver under equivalent isotropic radiated power (EIRP) constraints. The optimization problem is formulated in standard form. Similarities and differences to current beamforming solutions are drawn. An illustrative example identifies weaknesses of sum-power optimized precoding schemes, when they are scaled to comply with an EIRP limit. In order to improve the achievable rate, semi-random approaches are investigated. Numerical results are presented in the context of massive MIMO and the utilization of multi-mode antennas.
