Abstract
This study presents data from the Mediterranean Sea and the tropical Atlantic Ocean. The TTD method together with tracer measurements is used to estimate water mass ages and anthropogenic carbon concentrations. With the help of alkalinity and dissolved inorganic carbon measurements the carbonate system of the Mediterranean Sea is described and CFC-12 measurements are used to estimate anthropogenic carbon concentrations, inventories and fluxes. For the tropical Atlantic Ocean CFC-12 and SF6 measurements are available and give insight into the distribution of water mass age and anthropogenic carbon in the areas of the Guinea dome and the equator. Differences between the two regions are highlighted.
