Abstract
This study airns to evaluate the ISCCP Cl data to calculate the outgoing longwave radiation of the earth-atrnosphere system to space. The two-stream approximation of the radiative transfer, with a vertical resolution of 50 hPa, is used for each individual ISCCP segment. Input pararneter of the model are: Cloud properties (cloud level, optical depth, given in 5 classes each, coverage derived by ISCCP) and correlated data given in the Cl data set.
The calculated IR-window brightness temperatures are compared with the averaged observed brightness temperatures given in the Cl data set to check the model, especially the cloud parameterization. For clouds up to 200 hPa the calculated with the observed brightness temperatures agreed best by the choice of a cloudceiling in the deeper part of the given pressure layers. For the clouds between 200-100 hPa with an optical depth less than 10 the fit was done by choosing a smaller optical depth . There are still rernaining greater differences between both temperatures for the the optical thicker ones. The result of an correlation analysis with the calculated IR-window fluxes and broadband fluxes (4-400 µm) was a very good correlation between both quantities.
