Abstract
Hilger, I.; 1990: Condition and state of health of cod in the Wadden Sea 1988/1989. (In German). Diploma thesis, Faculty of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, University of Kiel, 100 pp. This diploma thesis was carried out within the research project "Fish diseases in the Wadden Sea". It deals with seasonal and regional fluctuations of the distribution and condition of joung cod in the Wadden Sea. The state of health is examined. The apperance of ''yellow pest", the spine shortening , pseudotumors in the pseudobranch, the infestation with Lernaeocera branchialis as well as their causes and effects on the individual are shown. In 1989, most of the young cod was found in the northen regions of the german Wadden Sea. There is a tendency, that individuals from the open sea are in a better condition than other from the estuaries of the rivers Elbe and Weser. The "yellow pest" is a so far unkown disease of cod. It is supposed, that it is an infection with bacteria of the genus Flexibacter. Probably, the infection ends with the death of the fish. An infestation with Lernaeocera branchialis apparently has an increased effect upon the smallest fish. By defining the spine shortening of fish, the influence of the investigator's subjectiveness has been shown.
