Abstract

Gas bubble detection is of major importance during observations of submarine gas pipelines. Hydroacoustic systems such as GasQuant could be modified to serve as both, a usual swath bathymetry system to map the morphology of the seabed and the course of the pipeline. At the same time, such systems will record back scattered data in the water column and could detect even very small gas bubbles which can not be seen by common visual observations.
