Abstract
This cruise was planned as a teaching cruise for bachelor students of the Institute of Marine
Ecosystem and Fisheries Sciences (IMF) to learn the most commonly used scientific methods,
gears and working procedures of fisheries science and biological oceanography on board of a
research vessel.
The main scientific objective was to investigate the distribution patterns of certain fish species
such as cod, whiting, sprat and herring in the Kiel Bight, Mecklenburg Bight, Arkona and Born-
holm Basin.
Besides fisheries and hydrological surveys, plankton stations were sampled along the cruise
track to gain insights into the spatial distribution of zoo- and ichthyoplankton, as well as fish eggs.
All necessary educational content could be taught and despite unforeseen Covid 19 conditions
and the resulting changes in the cruise program, some sample and data material could be col-lected.
The analysis of the data will be partly done in the form of module theses as well as in the context
of doctoral theses.
