Abstract

Thi' o.lam.pro' vum. Gr. n. thios sulfur; Gr. n. lampros bright, brilliant; L. n. ovum egg; M.L. neut. n. Thiolamprovum bright egg with sulfur.

Proteobacteria / Gammaproteobacteria / Chromatiales / Chromatiaceae / Thiolamprovum

Cells nearly spherical to oval, 2 × 2–3 µm, may occur in regular platelets of 4–16 cells, nonmotile, and multiply by binary fission. Gram negative, belong to the Gammaproteobacteria, and have internal photosynthetic membranes of vesicular type containing the photosynthetic pigments bacteriochlorophyll a and carotenoids.

The mol% G + C of the DNA is: 64.5–66.5 (Bd).

Type species: Thiolamprovum pedioforme (Eichler and Pfennig 1986) Guyoneaud, Süling, Petri, Matheron, Caumette, Pfennig and Imhoff 1998b, 963 (Amoebobacter pedioformis Eichler and Pfennig 1986, 300.)
